Interview with the artist: Kriiz
Introduce yourself! What’s your name? How long have you played Tibia?
My name is Kriiz (Chris). I’ve been playing for the last 3 to 4 yearsโฆ I used to play in the past but I stopped like a thousand times.
How did your adventure with Tibia fanart begin? What was your first work?
The first fanart I crafted was a BIIIG Flying Book for a contest from Tibia Events. Unfortunately, I don’t have a good-quality picture of it!
Are you an artist in real life, too, or is it all because of Tibia?
Iโm a baker in real life. I studied gastronomy and fell in love with creative pastry. I love those modeling projects for cakes and of course, I like to try new materials when I do modeling!
Is there someone who inspires you?
Zoe Hopkinson & Liz Marek, both talented sculpting sugar paste/cakes artists, they sculpt really AWESOME CAKES.
Inside the game, I think Makadamia is one of the most talented people I ever met. Iโd like to learn to draw like that and do pixel art. Oh my… I hope someday I can at least learn how to paint with watercolor paints!
You like doing decorations. What kind of decorations do you prefer having in your house? A standard house decoration or a pixel-art kind of decoration?
I usually like standard house decoration but sometimes when I have to do deco for a contest in the public/free spaces I prefer the pixel art deco!

Store decoration items – yay or nay? What is your opinion?
Yes! But just because I LOVE the pink roses and wooden planks in my house, talking about free/public places youโll need to work with your creativity and imagination.
Tell us about the contests you won!
Oh Godโฆ I love contests! Iโve won more than fifteen contests, seven of them with 1st place. I kept the fansite items and I sold some of the other prizes. I’m a huge fan of creative/craft or written contests!
What is your favorite artwork that you made?
A sugar/fondant art cookie I made for BomDiaTibia.com (Special Christmas Contest 2021) and a cake for the 25th Tibia Anniversary for TibiaEvents.com (Tibian Bakery Contest 2022). Both you can see below:
What would you say to someone who wants to start participating in decoration and art contests?
โPractice makes the masterโ. Try again and again. The worst thing that can happen is losing but when youโre the winner is the best feeling ever. As I said, I won a lot of contests but I’ve lost many of them too! (>.<)
What kind of contests do you like the most and why?
I like the contests where you have to handcraft stuff/cards/figures, write poems or stories. Thatโs because I really enjoy them. It’s exciting for me to create things from ZERO!
What do you like about fansite contests? What are their advantages?
I love to see all the different ideas coming from other minds, the prizes of courseโฆ & to see how people get motivated to create amazing stuff using their imagination.
One of the advantages of the contests is that every Tibian has the opportunity to win AMAZING & UNIQUE special or fansite items. The chance is there and we only have to tryโฆ
What do you NOT like about fansite contests? What are their disadvantages and what would you change?
I don’t like when a fansite doesn’t follow its own rulesโฆ Or when the results seem to be a little suspiciousโฆ And of course one of the disadvantages is that anybody can have a different opinion about an entry.
You may think you have one of the coolest and most amazing entries but maybe it doesnโt look like that to other people. That results in Tibians getting angry and disappointed.
The only thing I could change is probably to be more โtransparentโ about the way to pick the winners.
Those things should be made clear:
- what things were taken into consideration while evaluation,
- assigned number of points to each entry,
- the final votes for the winners.
